Garden Party Flower Bowl How-to

Garden Party

Spring is here. Colorful flowers brighten your day and make everything better. The best part about these cheerful blooms is they’ll stay fresh and vibrant forever.

This airy bowl is made with 6 flower clusters and 12 leaves. Don’t let the number of flowers or the intricacy of the design stop you from making fewer flowers and a smaller bowl. This project is about having fun and being productive while working with a medium you love. Plus, with different flower and leaf combinations you can make new groupings and create your own unique bowl pattern.

How to make the flower petals and leaves:

EPSON MFP image

Select three pretty opal colors for the flowers. Cut 12 flower petals out of each of the three colors for a total of 36 flower petals. Then cut 36 petal shapes out of clear glass. Grind the glass to improve the glass shapes. Stack the opal glass on the clear glass and set aside.

Pick an opal green for the leaves. Cut 12 leaves out of the green glass. Then cut 12 matching leaf pieces out of clear glass. Grind the glass to improve the shapes. Stack the green on the clear.

GP Fusing flower petals

Arrange the stacked flower petals and leaves on a kiln washed or fiber paper covered kiln shelf. Fire to a full fuse temperature using the guide below.

Making the flowers:

GP Fused Flowers

Place a fusing compatible glass nugget on a primed or fiber paper covered kiln shelf. Arrange 6 flower petals evenly around the nugget. Repeat to make 6 flowers. Make sure each petal is contact with the nugget in the center to ensure they stick together when fired. Fire the flowers to a tack fuse temperature using the guide below.

Using a pencil, draw a 12 inch circle on a primed or fiber paper covered kiln shelf. Place the fused leaves inside the circle. Arrange the fused flowers on top of the leaves. Fire to a tack fuse temperature.

Place the assemble project in a ceramic mold and slump the glass using the guide below.

GP Slump

The wonderful thing about this free-form design is you can make this project smaller, or with fewer flowers and still get beautiful results. Use your imagination. The possibilities are endless.

Enjoy your beautiful, springy floral bowl.
